I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand the new photo features to show up in El Cap and iOS 9. I love that on my iPhone, the selfie and screenshot folders are separate. It makes it much easier to go through and delete them. However, I'm having trouble figuring out how they actually work. For instance, if I take a selfie with my wife, I know that photo goes into the All Photos folder and the Selfie folder. However, what happens if I delete it from the Selfie folder? Does it get deleted forever? From everywhere? And if so, is there some way to make that not happen? Basically, I want to be able to keep my photos organized. If we take a selfie that she wants to keep, I want to be able to move it out of the selfie folder and keep it in the All Photos folder so that we don't delete it forever, but it won't stay in my selfie folder. If that doesn't make sense, let me know and I can try to explain further. Thanks for the help!

They are sub-folders and if you delete from the main camera roll then they will disappear from the selfie or screenshot folders too. Whilst in these sub-folders the photos are in your camera roll also. It's just a quicker way of locating them rather than having to scroll through the camera roll. You can't delete it from the sub-folders, if they're in your camera roll then they will get duplicated in the screenshot and selfie folders. No way around it.

Thanks for the quick reply. However, if I have a screenshot in my screenshot folder, I can delete it from that folder. It's just that it also deletes it from my camera roll. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is how to get them out of those sub-folders but not deleted from my camera roll? I like being able to quickly go through and delete all my selfies or screenshots, but if there is one I want to keep, I want to get it out of the sub-folder and only in the main camera roll. Is that possible?

No. Delete it from the folder & it disappears from camera roll, and vice versa.

Bummer. There should be a way to get it out of the sub folder and keep it in the main camera roll. I'm not going to want every single screenshot I take and decide to keep being in the same folder as screenshots that I will need for 3 minutes and then delete.

Install another photo app like Photo Manager Pro and then import things into it that you want to keep but not have in your camera roll/sub-folders. Afterwards delete it from your camera roll and the photo will be stored in the app, but gone from your crappy sub-folders. You can always export it back to your camera roll at any time. Alternatively use free Cloud space apps such as Google Photos, or Dropbox etc. The iPhone camera roll and incorporated sub-folders are pretty lousy.
