HELP-Monitor won't activate

My 16 year old son had been busted for pornography in our home on his computer. I don't see that he has internet access anymore but as I was checking today I found i couldn't turn on the monitor.

I saw in his room a set of programming (he has a brilliant friend who has put a backdoor on all his families computers so he can get in)

I think he has programmed it so I cannot get in

What can I do?

He has a mac mini w/ monitor.

I have a mac g5 and a macbook

Well I can't blame him, being 16, but I suppose that's not the issue. I wouldn't imagine you could lock a monitor, have you checked it's plugged in and all that ? Perhaps it's not plugged into the mini...

So you think it's ok to have a 16 year old on the web unchecked?

I discovered he has taken the power cord. Can I use my imac G5 as a monitor and how would I do that?

Well 16 is the legal age of consent. If having sex is allowed surely viewing pornographic images is not that bad?

Why not just use a different power cord? Would save you all sorts of issues.

Tell him to give you the power cord back. Seriously, it sounds a little weird that you're looking for a technical workaround for a problem that really comes down to getting your kid in line.

FWIW, there is no good way to use your iMac as a monitor. There are ways to do it, but none of them even come close to the quality you'll get by simply replacing the $5 power cord to your monitor.

I was on the 'net at 16, sans monitoring, and came out just fine.

If you have to babysit your kid's web history, odds are you should be babysitting other habits as well.
