Hard to say if this is a recurring problem because its a rare thing to sleep my G5. Im always using bit torrent 24/7, but my latest torrents are done and I put the ol girl to sleep.

Wake it up with a mouse move or keystroke, and everything is fine.

until I notice the monitor is still BLACK and receiving no signal (amber colored power light)

have to hard restart to bring the video back.

I dont want to keep the comp on if its not doing anything, nor do I want to restart it when it wont wake the monitor.

Anyone having similar problems?

Specs:

DP 1.8 Rev A
ATI 9800 Pro (latest ATI Displays AND firmware)
using VGA monitor thru DVI adapter

Essex, England.
Is it possible that the screensaver has activated and needs to be deactivated by using the far corners of the pad, rather than anything that usually brings it out of sleep?

oh, yes its waking up.

fans on, HD spins up, DVD spins up

just no familiar crackle of dust frying on the CRT.

and I dont use a screensaver, I have Energy Saver at 3min sleep monitor, 15min sleep computer.
