Long time reader of this board and finally posting. I've been a iMac guy since the days of the colored ones and LOVE 'em.

I'm finally having my first problem though and need some advice. I have the '06 Intel white iMac ( just before it converted to the aluminum) and it's starting to act strange. The other day, I erased my hard drive and reinstalled snow leopard, but that didn't fix it.

This is the deal: dark lines will randomly appear across my screen. The white bar at the top will randomly go away or turn black. Images across the screen will veer downward, randomly...it will just fade down. I can't force quit. The screen freezes a few times a week. It keeps making me reinstall plug-ins (silverlight) after I use it a few times.

Is it sick or dead?

Have not done that.

Will certainly try it when I get home. Thanks!

Aww, my first-Intel iMac from 2006 suffered the same fate. I took it in for a diagnostic and they said it was a logic board failure. This was about 2 months after Applecare expired. Needless to say, I wasn't paying 650 for a repair so I walked out with my 2009 iMac :)

Edit: Sorry to rain on your parade :(

Could it be the video card?

I really have no problem waiting and buying the next iMac, but I need my computer for many reasons and this thing is scaring me. Ughhh!
