Hey guys so i just got my Xs max about 3 weeks ago and havent got a chance to try the camera , so today i went to the mall and took this pic of my friend with portrait mode , what bothers me is that the picture is not good enough for a new phone , as you can see when when zoom in the face its kinda pixelated and the shirt is so grainy, the lighting was pretty good there , im wondering if this happened to u guys too

Is this the entire image or did you crop this before uploading? This looks pretty bad, but I’m guessing it’s the smoothing from low lighting.

This looks much better. More light helps a lot and mall lighting leaves a lot to be desired.
The natural light of the outdoor shot looks so much better.

I’ve found portrait mode (and the portrait mode you use) to produce radically different qualities. Would benefit from an iOS algorithm tweak.

All about natural lighting.

Artificial lighting is awful for trying to capture good pictures

Yet another comment confirming it's all about lighting. As the telephoto lens captures less light than the main one, you need to always pursue the best lighting you can find.
