Help, Need Consumer DVD Authoring software

Is there a consumer DVD authoring solution for the Mac along the lines of Pinnacle Studio and Roxio EZ CD and DVD Creator for the Mac?

iDVD is too slow to use for me and iDVD has a file size limit of 90MB. Toast only does VCD, though it will write it to a DVD.

Am I missing something or is the only other solution Final Cut, Premier, and Apple DVD Studio?

FCP and Premiere are editors, not DVD authoring software.

What 90mb file size limit are you refering to in iDVD?

I have several 100-200MB Mpeg-1,2 training videos I need to burn to DVD.

You want to do this as a DVD-video disc I assume?

iDVD won't let you import them huh? Have you tried exporting them as a dv stream from Quicktime Pro and then using them in iDVD or iMovie.

I'm exporting one at home as we speak. The iMac is not the machine for this, but there is a limited nuber so if it take 2 days to do each one, that's cool. I don't know if iDVD will take the DV stream if it is 90MB+ but I will find out.

The low end Video Authoring apps are one thing I do miss.

You also might be able to edit it in iMovie then export it to iDVD.

the limit is 90 MINUTES not 90 MB

at least i'm 95% sure of that.

I don't know if this would meet your requirements, but I ran across a story on the web about an application called "CaptyDVD". I found the companys website "www.pixela.co.jp" which is in Japanese, but from what I can tell it is an authoring studio for DVD's & VCD's that runs on OS 8, 9, and X. Like I say, I don't know anything about it, but it may be worth investigating further.

Yeah, looking on Apple's boards I saw there was a 90min limit. Why I don't know. But I am pretty sure i recieved a clip too large, 90MB but it was late and that was MPG.

I've transferred numerous films to DVD using iDVD, all over which were well over 90MB. 90MB is not much when we're talking video. I don't know about the 90 minute limit, but that would make more sense than a 90 MB limit.

idvd 1 had a 60 minute limit, and 2 had a 90 minute limit. so it's either 90 or 120 i'd guess.. but it's NOT 90 mb... try it again now that you're more awake and let us know.

Thanks for all the help. Converting to DV didn't take as long as the first 5 minutes made me think it would.

iMovie and iDVD managed the large DV files with a good deal of snap. Really changes the usability and performance.

One think though, i was able to inser clips over 90mins. I did get the warning but I was able to place them. When I placed a 90mb MPEG, I was not allowed to place it and got what I believe was a 90MB size limit warning. I'll try an MPEG again jus to make sure it wasn't sleep in my eyes.

I ordered a Lacie External, DVs are about 10x larger than the MPEGS.

if you really need to do this, then get dvd studio pro

it's quite a bit better than idvd...a lot more personal because you have to create the entire menu, can put a lot more information with no file size limits, and you aren't stuck with that apple logo on the menus

You can turn the apple watermark off in the iDVD 3 preferences.
