Help! Need hardware test for Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105

I'm having trouble trying to get some kind of diagnosis on the condition of my emacs built in Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-105 drive. It was failing on loads of burns recently (under Toast 6 Titanium) and was giving a strange message at the end (sorry don't have a copy of the message). I ran Apple Hardware Test from the disc included with the installation discs but the drive does not show up in the list of items to be tested. Anyone have any suggestions as to how this can be run, if at all?
Hope someone can help.

ok tried another burn and copied the report, here's the message i'm getting:

The drive reported an error
Sense key = illegal request
Sense code = 0 x 72, 0 x 03
Session fixation error - incomplete track in session

Have you tried different media? If not, try different media (a different manufacturer). Otherwise, AFAIK, there's no 'hardware tests' for SuperDrives that is available to the end user. You should look at replacing it with a newer model DVR.

You should probably look to getting a new pioneer drive and either installing it yourself or have someone do it for you. It's pretty easy, and a new drive should be pretty cheap by now.

It might not be the drive. I had some eMacs ordered in a while ago and we had problems with the superdrives. Usually when we got errors like that, it was a simple matter of lowering the burn speed. somewhere between 1-4 is where you experience the least trouble.

Thanks for the feedback. The emac has had a lot of failed burns over the last while on various media brands and i've had no luck finding any kind of diagnostic disc to run through it to at least eliminate whether or not it is a hardware or software problem, although it definitely seems to be hardware as the failed burns come through on both Toast and DVD Studio Pro. It is a shared computer and gets used a helluva lot so maybe the burner's time is up. I'll give it a clean, lower the burn speeds and see if i can't eek a bit more out of it while i save up some cash for the inevitable replacement

The replacement really shouldn't hurt that much.. heck, the most painful part will be the physcial labor involved.

Since the eMac is an all-in-one unit, you need to be REALLY REALLY REALLY careful if you decide to do this yourself.
You can be KILLED by the discharge built up in the CRT monitor.
For safety's sake I'd suggest getting the burner and taking it to a 3rd party for installation. Let them get zapped and killed.

But the burner is cheap.. for example, a Pioneer DVR-110D only costs $44.99 (~36Euro). You can probably find it cheaper elsewhere as well.
It's a slight upgrade over what you have now.
