I have three tagged blue files resting on my desktop. the same files are in main storage area finder. basically i don't need those files hanging around on my desktop so if i drag them to trash they also vanish from files labelled blue in finder. if i duplicate them the copy can be deleted but the same problem as above arises with the main copy of file. basically how can i delete those 3 files on my desktop without them vanishing from my mac. i've tried everything for what must be a very simple thing?? many thanks. i also find that when copying tagged files to a memory stick for some reason i get temporary clones appearing in finder until i remove the stick is that normal too? really wound up at present!!lol

HELP NEEDED [deleting files confusion]

Very simply those tagged files are lying around on my screensaver area. if i trash them from there they also vanish from the related tagged folder in finder. i need to delete them from the screensaver area without them being deleted from the corresponding folder. basically i dont need two copies of them. surely such a simple thing has a simple answer? many thanks
Delete the files from your desktop. (Drag to the trash)
If you want to keep copies in another folder, or on an external device, then Option-drag the files to that device. That will assure that you copy the actual files, and not just create a link to the real file.
If you wish to MOVE the file, without copying it, then drag the file to the new location while holding the Command key.
The file will then appear in the new location, and disappear from the old location. That Command-drag is only needed if you are moving the file to another device, such as an external hard drive. If you are moving it to a folder on the same hard drive, then just drag it to the new location, the Command key is not needed then.
When you have successfully copied or moved the file, and you know it exists in the new location, then trash the old file - if it still exists in the old location.

You can't. Your files need to be in real fonder. If you don't want to see them on the desktop just move them to another folder inside your home folder.
