I just got an iPhone from a guy and wanted some help unlocking it or to be pointed in the right direction. I have done some searching and reading but none that has worked in success. I have firmware 1.1.2 and the guy has had the phone for 4 months before me so I assume thats not the origonal that came on the phone. Can some of you guys help me, I want to be able to change my main screen buttons with new Apps, and change the background from black to a photo. Please help, thanks!!!

Try searching these forums for downgrading firmware (1.1.2 - 1.1.1) and jailbreaking methods. There's more than you could ever hope to find...

i searched and tried methods but when i try to down grade from 1.1.2 to 1.1.1 i get an error that it could not install firmware. and nothing happens it just resyncs. I dont understand....

I had read that if you have 1.1.2 OTB (Out of The Box) that you cannot downgrade to a 'hackable' firmware. I hope this is untrue though

and i read that too but the guy i got the phone from said he had the phone for about 4 months so there is no way it come OTB with 1.1.2 right?

ok i think the problem was i was not closing itunes after the error

what all can I do with an unlocked iphone?? I mainly just want to be able to change my background and maybe icons around...is that pretty easy to do or is there a program to allow that???

If you install summerboard and customize, you should be able to mod your iPhone all you want. If you want to design your own themes you can upload them via ssh.

I am trying to follow your directions but iphuc doesnt seem to work i moved the files and all but when i type cmd it causes an error and the program crashes....need some help here thanks!!

I am having the same problem, iphuc crashes as soon as I try to enter a command.
