Help new car & iPhone

Hi

My new car "a WV Golf" arrived today. When I ordered the car I ask for ipod connection and Sat Nav. The brochure showed an ipod connected to the car and sitting in the box between the two front seats.

However today when the car arrived there is a CD player in the box between the seats and what looks to be a 3.5 earphone point at the front of the box.
The sales invoice states that iPod connection is there but I am not so sure. I asked the sales guy to call and check and he did and said that the earphone point thing is the iPod connection. I still think that its wrong so I have three questions.

1) Have you ever seen an iPod connection that looks like an 3.5 earphone point and not a flat multi pin thing?

2) If so how do you connect an iPod/iPhone to it.

3) If I do have the correct connection for iPod/iPhone can I connect my iPhone to the car for music if I put the aircraft thing on?

With a 3.5mm jack plug, the car basically becomes a set of headphones - thats it. A better solution would be a dock connector which will give you more options, but it is proprietary interface for Apple only. The 3.5mm jack is more generic and can be used with all MP3 players and some phones too - plus its a cheaper option than a fully integrated iPod solution.

You may be able to get an interface for your iPhone if you get a device that can plug into your cars hifi system at the rear. My advice would be for you to pay a visit to your local car hifi centre.

You got an Aux jack (maybe that is what VW calls "ipod preparation" ,but I have never seen it done that way on cars in the US). It will certainly work to play music from the iphone via your cars stero, but with a true ipod connector you control the ipod/iphone function from the cars radio.

I just looked at the UK Volkswagon site it show this feature cost 285 pounds. For that kind of money, I would want more than a aux jack!
