Just came home at lunchtime to eagerly wait for my new Mac Mini to arrive.

It's here.

Opened up quickly installed 4GB Ram. Seated properly etc.

Turned on and I have the pair a mouse/trackpad screen.

Batteries in trackpad turned on and I get a spinning wheel on the mac for over 10 mins? :(

Please help.

All 3 items are brand new. Mac, trackpad, keyboard.

Do you have a USB wired mouse you could connect to the Mac mini to maybe run Software Update?

Did you try turning the Mac on before upgrading?
Did you try re-adding the old ram with the old ram?

Nope but the Mac is working I can see it trying it just can't find the trackpad? - should I be using a mouse first or something?

When I first got my trackpad it wanted to do a software update before it would work. You need to connect a mouse of some kind and do the software update. You also need to be able to click on the item in System Preferences, Trackpad to connect the trackpad.

You should be able to connect the trackpad with just the mouse. At work at the moment, but I don't believe it's an action that requires an admin password.

well i have a wireless keyboard aswell as a wireless trackpad.

but as i obviously couldnt get past the trackpad page couldnt even test keyboard!

will try later and hope for the best.

One more Q.

Im restoring from a backup of my macbook air which i just sold.

Can i restore this immediately without having to make a user profile and then duplicating it when i restore.

I am right in saying that i get an option on initial start up of migration assistant before i get an option of creating a new user right?

I would advise against this.

You're trying to do too much, too quickly.
Example: putting the additional RAM in _before_ you got the mini running, tested, etc.

Get the thing up and running first.
Establish a new account.
Make sure it works.

THEN.... bring the older stuff over...

Just my thoughts....

I found when I was setting up my new mac mini a few weeks ago that it was impossible to set up without USB mouse and USB keyboard. But that was because I was inputting my apple ID during set up.

Take a look at this:

If you are able to get your trackpad and keyboard to work then you can use migration assistant and it will be the cleanest and most elegant way of doing so. But I am not sure if you can do it without USB keyboard.

After turning on the mini, did you "restart" your keyboard and trackpad while the mini was searching for them by powering down and powering them back up?

This may work if you don't mind the hassle of rebooting a few times but it has worked for other people so give it a try a few times until the wireless keyboard is picked up by the machine

When you set up using migration assistant, simply go to preferences and pair the keyboard and trackpad. It takes all of 10 seconds!

doesn't work you don't get to MA.

it stays at the searching for keyboard/mouse screen.

Either way all done and I'm typing this from my wireless keyboard on my 51" 3D Samsung.

Im in love!
