Help....New Mac not getting display

I have a new (never used) Mac mini 2.5 i5 and its not getting display to the monitor. I'm using a VGA monitor with a Thunderbolt Mini Display port to VGA adapter. I know this should be something simple. Any thoughts?

Is the input on the monitor set to vga? Could it be a bad adapter? Bad vga cable? Bad monitor? Basically have you isolated the problem solely to the Mini?

Try another cable if you can get one. I went through 3 cables for my Mini to Asus PB278Q before I found one that worked properly.
