Long story short....I sold my iPhone 6s+ yesterday. I erased all content and sold. She gets it home and cannot activate it. Likely story is the darn "Find my iPhone". I log into my iCloud and turn it off. I also remove the device from my Apple account like I read online. She still cannot set up the phone. It's asking for the original Apple ID and PW. Basically I have to go get the phone from her and log into it again??? This is insane.....like I have to set up the phone again under my name and do something???

Apple is of ZERO assistance.....can anyone help me with what might be wrong?

P.S. The phone is an unlocked phone from Apple. It was under the Upgrade Plan and paid off (even tho that is not the problem here).

I take it you did not turn off Find My iPhone before erasing all content and restoring the phone?

Very important first step to avoid the problem you now have. Don't be annoyed, Apple does this to protect your data when your iDevice is lost or stolen and Apple does provide a way to avoid this as I just mentioned.

Anyway, since you have removed the device from your account, check here to verify that iCloud lock has been removed.

If it has not, folow these steps.

If you've done all that and activation lock still won't go away then you'll have to help the person you sold the phone to. You can always change your password/email address on your Apple ID afterwords.

Ok I did the first step and verified if the Activation Lock was on....it says it is.

So I go to the 2nd step which I tried last night. I have removed the device from my icloud and account. I even called Apple this morning and they verified that it is indeed removed. However, the new owner is still not able to set up.

So if I give her my iTunes account and password how much could she access? Only enough to get logged onto the phone and turn that stuff off? Could she access all my information in the meantime and do fraudulent things??

She would have complete access until you changed your email and password - assuming she didn't just log right in and lock you out.

Perhaps you two could work something out where you complete the login, then logout of Find My iPhone and then restore the phone again?

Or perhaps she is shading the truth to get your account details?

At the very least, if you do give your credentials and THEN change your password she would have your email address.

Very difficult spot to be in, I feel for you.

I am not worried about the email....but if I gave her my password and then immediately changed it would I be safe?

With an Apple ID, someone can do a lot of shopping at the App Store or iTunes in a couple minutes....

Also anyone who logs in with an Apple ID can change the password. So you could be locked out... If she was that evil.
