I am in serious need of help. :(

Last week, my iMac started having problems. I first noticed that some of the pixels on the screen were the wrong color. Then all of a sudden I couldn't start the Mac up at all. I took it to the local Apple Store, and they couldn't even get into the HD at all. They advised me to get a new internal harddrive from somewhere else.

So, I went and bought a Seagate 300 GB SATA Harddrive. I got it installed properly, and when i ran the reinstall disk that came with the computer. It will run the first disk fine, no problems. But when it restarts, it goes to a blue screen, with only the curser visible. (It never asks for the 2nd disk).

The HD is formatted Mac OS Extended (journaled). I have tried using one partition of 300 GB, and I tried repartitioning the drive into two 150 GB spaces. The reinstall disks say that they are running OS X 10.4. I have tried hooking the iMac to my macbook via firewire, and am able to see the disk in question, and everything appears to be there.

Does anyone have any idea what I can do?

Stupid question? what version of the OS are you running? not to insult intelligence but you are aware of time machine? even if you only back up once it will save you so much time its not even funny.

Cheers!

Reinstall Help

I'm not running Leopard, I'm running Tiger, assuming I can get this reinstall to work. That means no Time Machine (not to insult your intelligence).

Just to reiterate: this is a brand new Harddrive, that I am doing a reinstall of the OS, v 10.4. No backups.

The problem is that I can't get it to get past the first (of 2) install disk.

There is one update: after a couple of hours of just sitting there, it has started doing the beach ball thing. Its been doing this for a few hours now.
