Welcome to the forum AP

Your first lesson is: Be as specific in your question, especially about the model of your machine. There are four different 20" iMacs, and the all take different RAM

20" iMac G4 takes one PC2700 SODIMM (user installable) and one PC2700 DIMM (technician only install)
20" iMac G5 Rev A and B take two PC3200 DIMMs
20" iMac G5 iSight model takes a single DDR2-533 DIMM
20" iMac intel Core Duo, takes two DDR2-667 SODIMMs

Second is, tell us your location.

If you are in the USA for example, I recommend Data Memory Systems for Mac RAM.

Thanks
Trevor

You can also get RAM here:

www.memorytogo.com

Its quite a bit cheaper than the link above depending on what type of RAM you need...

Like CanadaRAM said...you need to specify what iMac you have exactly as they all take different types of RAM. If you have an Intel iMac, I would recommend that you definitely get at least a 1 GB DDR2 SODIMM. Rosetta uses a ton of RAM when in use.

MTG US$106 - $118 depending on the model you choose + shipping -- they don't disclose shipping unless you register.

Buying RAM for a mac can be extremely daunting. I'm glad I found your post, as I just bought ram for my imac 17" core duo. I was very leary about buying it from newegg.com, but it works perfectly with my 17" imac core duo. No problems at all. One of the reviewers of this particular RAM I bought stated it worked perfectly with his 20" imac core duo. Here's the link

Whenever I buy ram for my macs I go to crucial.com and run their wizard for choosing the right ram. Their ram is very expensive, though, so I take the results from their wizard and plug the same stats into newegg.com to get cheaper RAM with the same required specs. The Corsair SODIMM I bought was only 53 bucks, rather than the 70 something newegg was charging.

Here's a tip for installing it. The imac manual will tell you to just pop the extra ram into the bottom slot and push it until it clicks. I found that I could not push it in all the way without pulling the two gray tabs in opposite directions to remove the original apple ram, then popping both chips in the slots and pushing the gray tabs towards each other. When you do that, both chips will click in properly.

Just take into account that you're taking a chance with all 3rd party ram when it comes to macs. It's only fairly safe to say that apple ram is guarenteed to work, but who wants to pay that much?

You don't need to register to buy the RAM there and shipping is free and carries a lifetime guarantee on the RAM. Also, its guaranteed to work on the Mac you choose.

DMS has lifetime warranty and is guaranteed to work in Macs. My main point is that the M2G prices are hardly "quite a bit" cheaper.

I couldn't find shipping costs on the M2G site without entering personal information into the checkout -- here's what you get:

An Error Has Occurred

Billing First Name cannot be blank
Billing Last Name cannot be blank
Billing Address cannot be blank
Billing City cannot be blank
Billing Province cannot be blank
Billing Zipcode cannot be blank
Billing Daytime Telephone cannot be blank

I don't like it when companies demand all this information from you before they tell you what their shipping cost is.

Why would you want to spend more?

I don't understand why you want to spend in excess of $50 more (2 x 1GB) by going through those sites. Newegg has 1GB sticks from reputable memory manufacturers for much less than those sites are charging. It is not "verified" to work with a mac, but it will, it's the same thing. The memory also comes with lifetime warranties. Why would you spend more?
