The VSAM site is what I need help with. This was designed two years ago by the current webmaster whom I am assisting this year. There have been several complaints about the website, which have been shrugged off by the original designer.

First off, what are your impressions on the website overall and navigation? When I first visited the site, I did not understand navigation until someone told me to look at the fan. Either I'm not very observant, or the navigation could be a bit better. Having it on the fan is a very original idea nevertheless.

Secondly, I have a question about the use of frames in the website. When I discussed the website with my friend, he said it was laid out for a 1024x768 screen. The thing is, not all screens have that resolution, but he argued that because most screens are bigger than that resolution that it's not a problem. My complaint is that using Safari, I like websites that are 800 px wide, or is at least somewhat flexible as to the length of the website. My question is that is there a way if he wishes to keep with the current layout to have the frames adapt to the width of the browser, or what is the best way to get rid of the frames altogether? He is quite fond of the frame layout, so I need a good plan/layout to help stand my case.

Thirdly, please navigate to the "Color Photos" section. It's nice how he gets specific frames to update, but apparently he does this with the images one by one so it takes a while to complete a gallery. If he wishes to keep the frames, is there a way to automate this process with a batch of pictures. This section has not been updated since 2005, and I would like to change that. If we do go away from the frames, then is there a program that can automate a photo gallery page? My current favorite design is having a row of thumbnails below the image (or down the side if the website goes to a two column layout) and an image is replaced. I'm open to other layouts as well.

Finally, if anyone has dial-up, please comment on the speed of the website and how it loads. Also if there are any other concerns with the website please let me know so I can find a way to improve this website further.

Many thanks!
-OA

PS If anyone would like to look at my personal website and comment, please feel free to do so as well =)

Are you looking for ideas? Is it broke? Do you hate the design? A little help here maybe?
