Hi,

I work as an in-house designer. The company I work for has many different departments with completely different field of activities. I mostly design brochures, ads, flyers etc.

I have implemented a simple file organization system. Inside my "design" folder, I have created a folder for each department and inside those I have created subfolders for different products that I have designed for them (eg. Ads, Brochures, Posters).

So far it has worked fine, but my problem is that sometimes I would like to be able to create "smart folders" that I can name for example "ads" and see all the ads from ALL of the departments. What would be the best way to set this up?

Could anyone recommend a website with best practices on organizing files and naming them?

The easy way would be to create a folder with aliases that link to the originating files. So, your folder for "ads" would contain aliases to all of your ads and those could be anywhere. Though, I'm not sure how efficient this would be if you get busy.
