OK, new MBP, 17", coming in next Tuesday (can't wait!!!). I have an old original AirPort base station (graphite). Should I stick with it and hope that it works for my new Mac, or should I go back to the Apple Store (Saddle Creek in TN) and buy an AirPort Extreme?

I wouldn't see why it wouldn't work with your Macbook Pro, all WiFi cards are backwards compatible. ;)

Unless you plan on network file sharing between computers I'd stick with the graphite. The chances of your internet connection actually being faster than 802.11b (11 Mbps) is currently pretty slim.

At least until ADSL2 is fully deployed. ;) But most DSL companies currently don't offer such lines. :p

I agree, but I doubt he'll ever see 11Mbps. It'll be more like 6, but that's still enough for what most people have at their homes.

Unless you've got FiOS, your old Airport should be fine. The only other distinct advantage Airport Extreme gives you besides bandwidth is range.

even most cable providers only offer 6, or 8 at most. I'm sure there are exceptions, but the point is that 11Mbps is still quite a bit.
