Is there a way to use OS 9 font in OS X without having to purchase Suitcase or FontReserve? Is there cheaper software that can convert OS 9 font into OS X font? Please help.

If you're using one partition, move your OS 9 fonts into:

[Hard Drive]/System Folder/Fonts/

then restart apps as necessary. No "conversion" is needed if you just want to use those OS 9 fonts in OS X apps.

Actually

The best place to put new fonts for use by Mac OS X is either of the following:

/Library/Fonts (for everyone)

/<home folder>/Library/Fonts (for the current user only)

Mac OS X recognizes Mac OS 9 "dual forked" fonts and font suitcases, Windows TrueType .ttf fonts, Mac OS X flat file .dfont files, OpenType fonts and Type 1 Postscript fonts.

To get an app to recognize newly added fonts simply quit and re-launch the application.

In Mac OS X 10.3 you can use Font Book (in the Applications folder) to install fonts, preview them and activate individual fonts or deactivate duplicates/older versions.

Mac OS X Font PDF from Apple.
