Help pairing MB air and iPhone 6

I'm trying to pair these two devices to use handoff, but can't get the phone to see my MB air. Any suggestions?

now it'll see the phone but says can't connect when I hit pair.

you don't need to pair them. handoff isn't working for me either and you might need 8.1 for it to work properly... I'm not sure since Im not doing iOS work

update: yeah, 8.1 seems necessary for full handoff capability, but handoff from my Mac to my iPhone (along with airdrop from iPhone to Mac) is working apart from sms/phone. But I can't do handoff from my iPhone to Mac.

I have exact same problem with my late 2011 MBA and iPhone 6.
However, same MBA running Mavericks and my iPhone 4S and 6 paired just fine???
