Newbie here, and I know this has been gone over before, tried to do a search with no luck.
How the heck do you close out your apps????????????
I've tried everything, I'm lost without the X. Please tell this newbie how to close then out. It's driving me nuts.
Thanks fellow Mac lovers!:apple:

The normal way is to simply press the home button. Another way is to hold down the home button until the app quits, this is similar to a force quit on a computer.

I tried that, and it didn't seem like anything happened.
Will I be able to tell it's closed?

sorry mod's.

The only apps that run in the background are the stock "original" apps that came with the iphone. All other apps close completely when you do something else. That is why everyone complains about things like IM apps because as of now 3rd party apps can't run in the background.

jmann, thank you so very much for replying to me. I just got my Iphone today and I remember people saying that there battery usage would go low because of apps running in the background, so of course just getting my phone I've opened almost every app that came with the phone, but I know they are not closing or at least I don't think they are. So I was wondering how to close them properly. When I leave safari and come back the same web page is still there. This to me is not right!
Jmann, thank you again for answering me, I love my Imac, but apple is funny about how much info or direction they give you with their product.:)

It is true. They just give you the bare essentials and expect you to figure out the rest on your own. That is why we are here. :D Like I said Safari is one of the "Original" apps that come with a new iphone, so naturally they will stay open when you are not in them. But it won't have any effect on battery life unless it is doing something like loading a page when you quit it. For the most part all of the apps just sit there doing nothing unless you actually open and use them. So I wouldn't worry about it.

again thank you so much, I am a moderator on another board and the mac/apple people have to be about one of the best out there. Always helpful and great to newbies.

I will be back I'm sure, but again thanks for your time and knowledge.

Google Street View

I'm guessing you might not know how to use/find/know that you have google street view on your iPhone. So in case you don't know, you have to go into Google Maps, drop a pin and then touch the orange guy on the left of the pin info line. This, if you are in an area with google street view, will bring you to real pictures from Google's street view application online. I hope this helps you out with a possible future question and hope we, as a MR community, can help you with any other questions you might have.

Have fun with the iPhone, its awesome!

This is what I was doing tonight when my Iphone finally died on me. I have to say, I'm in love with my Iphone, just playing around with it more, I see that when I bring up any app. it's already set for some other destination ie. California, I just downloaded the yahoo IM app, and there is are Asian people who are coming up already there!!!!!!!!! could I have a refurb???????
I am really confused now.
I know I'm a newbie, but I'm feeling really old right now, and completely out of the techno loop.
Thanks again for all you putting up with these questions that are soooooo old.

If it's a "new iPhone" then no, you don't have a refurb. Some of that stuff that's already on it, could be factory testing that didn't get deleted. It should have come in an iPhone box (black/white) with all of the accessories (headset, USB cable/with adapter, cleaning cloth and manual). My suggestion, is to keep your iPhone plugged in if you are using it as much as you are using it, keep a car charger close by when traveling by car or plug it in to a computer when next to a computer. It just sounds like you are using it an awful lot...:(

Thanks for your advice, yes brand new out of the box today. And I know I'm using it an awful lot, I just feel like a kid at Christmas, being almost 39, I love my IMac and now everthing Apple.
