Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help me.

My MacBook Pro won’t boot past the Apple logo, it will just crash and restart.

I cannot boot into any recovery or safe mode as I have a firmware password in place. I will attempt a DFU repair later on.

This problem has come about a week after replacing thermal paste. Suddenly the MacBook screen and touchbar shuts off to black. It seems a little extra paste had snuck onto other connectors on the gpu and was possibly shorting it? I cleaned and reapplied paste which fixed the screen.

However, I now keep getting the firmware password box where I’ll enter the correct password and then the system will freeze for a few seconds and then crash.

What’s going on? Can anyone offer any advice please? I’m looking to exhaust all opens before I pay the £700 to apple for a new logic board… many thanks

Cmd-v for verbose startup. Good luck.
This thermal paste trend has gotten out of hand.
Thanks for the reply.

I’ve been unable to boot into verbose…

A previously unnoticed symptom is that once I enter my firmware password a static-y / scratchy noise starts coming from inside. It’s not loud by any means, but in a quiet room you can just about pick it up. Sounds like it’s coming from right where the cpu and gpu would be…

I’m wondering, is it possible to boot using integrated graphics only? This could help narrow the issue down.
