Help Please? Only a Few Hours

Ok, im ordering a Mac Pro within the next few hours (5). I am going to upgrade the video card to the X1900. I would still like to know if this is worth it? As well as if the noise will be a lot different. Another thing im wondering about is apple care. Will it be void if I add aftermarket hardware? Is it a good idea to get this with a desktop? As well can someone explain to me the difference between 32bit and 64 bit and what it means for me? Any other info that you think might be useful is more than welcome. Thank you

It's been my experience that if apple-installed parts are found in the computer when you send it in to be repaired, the technicians will not fix it. Solution: Save the pre-installed parts, and if you ever have to send it in just swap back the originals.

Yes, the X1900 is well worth it if you need the graphics power and/or do gaming. Noise will not be much different, your biggest difference will be if you are playing a game that REALLY gives the GPU a workout.. In that case, the cooling fan on the Vid Card will speed up and you MIGHT notice a small noise increase (but not likely...)

32bit/64bit... I am going to assume you are talking about either the OS or the CPU and comparing WindowsXP/OSX and/or CPU 32b and CPU 64b... I am not the uber tech that 99.9% of the guys here are, but the main difference is that the 64b CPU can handle larger amounts of information at once, and if the OS and Program you are using support 64b, it is faster.

best advice I can give you is that if you are a gamer, make sure to get at LEAST 2g RAM.

im nto realy a gamer. I only want to be able to play WOW on it. im going to wait on the ram untill it comes down in price (since i cant afford it at the second)... thank you guys for the help. What about the apple care? worth it?

I'd guess the stock card would be capable of handling WOW just fine.

I'd add some extra RAM instead, since you really don't sound as though you need the 1900, where as you could probably do better with the extra RAM.

Apple Care is worth it if you intend to have this machine for a long time, since it adds protection for three years (especially worth it if you buy a Mac and a display at the same time, since they're both covered).

No offence, but based on your other topics and this, I'd have guessed you'd be better suited to an iMac than something like the Mac Pro. Save yourself some money.

no offence taken, i appriciate any help, and i understand your points. Originally i was going to get the 15inch macbook pro. I looked seriously at the imac, but what stoping me from getting that is the inability to keep it updated as time goes on. I plan on having this computer for a long time. The reason im getting the X1900 is becasue although the stock card can handle WoW at this time, In a few years, or even later this year i might need a better card to run a diffrent game, or use my GIS programs to their full extent.

And in a few years time, there'll be better graphics cards about, too.

Buy what you need now, especially if you're going to update - or you'll end up wasting money in the long run.

If you can run WOW safely on a 7300, which I'm told you can, just keep that - and put the money towards the RAM, since you're going to be using that in the long run, and is not really an upgrade worry, if you see what I mean.

i do see what you mean. But if i get the top end graphics card now ill be able to handle most programs and games for the next few years, VS. havign to upgrade it next year or later this year. I things might run poorly on the X1900 in a few years, but they will still run. Of course there will be a new card out but it dosent make their former top card useless. The ram i expect to upgrade but im not doing it through the apple website. Thats why i asked about the aftermarket hardware and the protection plan.

WoW and the Mac Pro... your going to love it..

hearthstoning, or going into/out of an instance... Very short delay's... Most of the time I don't GET a delay.... first I'm in one place, then I'm in the other...

The worst part is waiting for everyone ELSE to deal with their 1-10 second delays as their PC's unload and reload the information
