So here is my situation...

I purchased my iPhone online via craigslist and have been using it for the past 4 months and haven't really had any problems with it. Please note that my phone is jailbroken.

Within the past few days the phone has been acting a little weird. My phone would, out of nowhere, lose reception for extended periods of time (40 min+). I decided to turn the phone off and back on...

Upon doing so, the white apple appears on the screen, for a minute or so and then the "loading symbol" did its thing, and it worked. GREAT!

This happened again, about 24 hours later. I turned the phone off and back on. This time, it took a 'little' longer to load when the apple was on the screen... Maybe 30 min to an hour, though it ended up working.... for another 24 hours...

Again, 24 hours hours later, this time it took about an hour and a half to load, though still appeared fine after it had finished doing its thing and had booted.

Now... Again, as mentioned, this has been over the course of about 5 days. My iPhone lost reception last night (19 hours ago), it is still trying to boot up , and freezes when the "loading symbol" is on the screen. The phone will shut itself off and try to boot... a continuous loop...

I took the phone to the Apple store (i like to call it the iStore) and spoke to a genius who looked at my phone and concluded that it was malfunctioning due to water damage. He told me that i could have the phone replaced for $257.00. AWESOME!

He proceeded to type in the Serial number to his laptop where he concluded that my phone was from the US and therefore jailbroken. As a result, i would no longer be eligible for the $257.00 phone, and would have to take it to the US to have an apple US store MAYBE take it back... (he couldn't verify it was officially jailbroken because he could not actually look at the phone's software as the phone couldn't access the home screen). Since AT&T doesn't provide service in Canada it was pretty clear my phone was jailbroken.

Here is my question...

Do you think if I ran over my phone, causing extreme damage, the iStore would sell me a new one at $250.00?

If they say that my phone got wet, I would say that it was raining when I ran over it... Does anyone think this will work?

Does anyone know if apple stores report/record jailbroken/wet phones?

Your thoughts are welcome...

Why don't you just get a new one for $99, $199 or $299 - take your pick and sign up for a new plan. If you provided your own phone in the past, you must be nearing eligibility for an upgrade anyway. My carrier gives me an opportunity to upgrade my iPhone every year, I'm in Canada. Problem solved and you don't have to defraud anyone.

This guy…. Have you thought about un-jailbreaking and/or re-jailbreaking it? That may solve your problems if it isn't water damage. If it is, then you can think about running it over.

I've stamped on mine and said I left it on the roof of the car at a gas station, took it to the Apple store and they gave me a new phone for $250

So, you want to commit fraud, right? First things first, look up the criminal punishment for fraud. Second, determine if it is worth it. Third, consider your morals. And Finally, I believe it is against the rules here to ask for advice on breaking the law.

"Hey, I modified my car and it no longer runs properly."

"Do you think if I crash it into a pole the dealer will give me a new one?"

It's people like this guy who make the Genius Bar give all of us a hard time for exchanging a legitimately defective phone. Thanks a lot!

Please do this and video tape it. Then video tape it when you try bringing it back for damage.

You will definitely get a new one for free probably.

Pretty much you have 2 options: try re-selling it on craigslist and then buy an other one, or make a quick run to the apple store in the US where they will sell you a replacement. Simple enough. Good luck dude.

You can run over your'e phone with a car. The problem is......it won't break or even put a blemish on it if its a 3GS, if it's a 3G it will. The 3GS is a Super phone hence, the S. It's pretty much everything proof so it won't do any damage at all.
