I just bought
- Mac Pro 2010
- 2 x 2.4 Ghz 6 Core
- GT120
- El Capitan

And I replaced the GPU with Radeon Pulse RX580 lite version. And I connected with my iMac 2013 because I don't have the monitor yet. I assume that I can use my iMac as a monitor by using Target Display. But when I turn it on, the mac pro is booting, and I heard chime sound. But suddenly it turned off. There is no apple logo in the iMac.

And I tried to replace it with the GT120 but no luck, then I am using dell monitor with HDMI connection but no luck too, still turned off in 5-20 seconds after turn on.

Someone told me that the boot rom is corrupted because I didn't upgrade the boot rom first. Is it correct?

Mac Pro works without a display and even without a GPU installed. If it’s shutting down, the problem is elsewhere.

If you used a RX 580 with El Capitan, the display won’t work at all, RX 580 needs 10.12.6 to work.

Btw, PC GPUs don’t have pre-boot configuration support when installed with a MP5,1, only 2019 Mac Pro works with PCs GPUs for boot screens

so the problem is in the power supply or logic board? or somewhere else?

Download the Apple Technician Guide for 2010 Mac Pro, put back the Apple OEM GPU and start the diagnose process.
Thanks a lot. But I am not an expert. I don't know if I can diagnose the problem.
btw I trying to record it. Do you mind if you see the video and how do you think?

Thanks

The 580 also probably requires both of the power connecters too.. Each one delivers up to 75w, my 570 is borderline with just one of em connected. Id bet anything the 580 needs both to even power up.

yes, and I used two connectors to add extra power.
