iPod Help Please

this ipod freezes when i connect it, it wont go to the do not disconnect screen, then my itunes doesnt read it or its becomes unclickable then if i exit itunes and open it, it doesnt open also my ipod clicker doesnt work and it wont show up on my computer but it says its connected i got a 3g nano 4gb

I have a 5G iPod Video that freezes all the time when I connect it to my Mac. The only solution is to disconnect it and reset it by holding the menu and middle buttons at the same time. I know you're not supposed to just yank it, but for me there is no other option. It always seems to work the second time I plug it in.
