Hello guys, I got a Macbook that has OS X Yosemite on it, one day out of the blue it just wouldn't boot up past the apple logo, it goes mid bar then stays there, So i did the disk utility and wiped the HD and tried to reinstall the OS. Its asking me for the Apple ID & password which i dont have, is there anything i can do to fix this? I just want to use the laptop again.

thanks

You need to have a Apple ID and Password that has the OS you want that was "purchased" with that account. The only way to "officially" obtain the Mac OS is from Apple.

How did you try to "reinstall the OS"? Which OS are you trying to install (Lion or Yosemite or ...)? Do you have access to another Mac? What year is your MacBook (so we can determine which OS's that it can support)?

There are also bootable USB Flash Drive Mac OS installers for sale on Amazon or eBay.

well i do have an apple id with yosemite on it, i just dont want to log into my apple id as this computer isn't mine, its for a friend.

I reinstalled the os by holding command R while booting, i do have access to another MAC which i'm trying to make the bootable USB, but its taking awhile and since it does not have a progress indicator i dont even know if its working. It saying its copying now, but its been copying for like 30 minutes

It sounds like you got it under control. Be patient, it can take quite awhile to make the USB installer since it can be slowed down by the performance of the USB stick and the MB USB port (USB 2 vs USB 3). I'm assuming you are using createinstallmedia in Terminal to make the bootable USB. The last time I used that it took around 45 minutes.

yes thats what i'm using. Thanks i'll report back in a couple hours once it works or fails
[doublepost=1483654994][/doublepost]so it finished but still didn't work, i think its because i didn't partition the drive correctly before putting the file on it. I was able to reformat the disc with GUID, but i'm having issues with i'm adding the partition. When i click DU, and i try to add a partition on it, and i click the + sign it does not give me the "option" to make it a GUID partition for the partition scheme. Is this going to be an issue? When i did reformat the drive prior to the repartition, it did give me the GUID partition option, just not when i'm adding a partiton if that makes sense.
[doublepost=1483655112][/doublepost]this is the guide i'm following
