FORMERLY NJ now FL
It worked for a few minutes now all I am getting is a solid white screen with nothing in it. No icons. Can't power off (holding down power button) the screen just goes off. Hit power again back to bright white screen comes right back not the usual "do you want to shut down" screen.

Is there some sort of RESET I can do with a button combination to give this a kickstart?

You can hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until the Apple logo appears to reset.

If that doesn't work you may need to restore your iPhone.

Thanks for posting this, I was about to take my iPhone of several months to the store for repairs when I came across your advice. Not sure what I did to make it freeze up, but your solution seemed to debug the problem. Thanks!
