After I updated my iMac to OS x Sierra my iCal, Address Book and iPhoto became question marks. Can somebody help me how to get rid of these question marks icons on my dock. iCal, Address Book and iPhoto are now showing "?". I know they are now replaced by calendar, contact and photos. I can't get rid of it. It's not giving me option to delete, I even tried to drag it to trash but it keep coming back. I also deleted dock.plist at preferences and still coming back. I went to terminal and followed some command on how to reset the dock and still the same. It's so annoying. Any help would greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

right-click (or control-click) on the icon, select "remove from dock" in the options...

EDIT: am assuming you mean iPhoto, not iPhone... :D

haha. My bad. It's not giving me that options. "remove from dock" I right click and only show "options" nothing more. I already deleted iPhoto from Applications folder, but when i restart my computer this question mark show up.

It's normal that the menu is empty.

What happens when you drag them out of the Dock anywhere on the Desktop?

It keep going back to the dock, even if you try to drag it to the trash, it also go back to the dock.

Try to run these commands in Terminal:

defaults delete com.apple.dock

then

killall Dock

That should fix it.

just curious; have you rebooted? and are those apps still in your Applications folder?

Reboot numerous times and still there. Apps no longer there. See screen shot. Thanks

Maybe there is something wrong with your file system. You could try to repair the drive with Disk Utility.

It can't be the HDD. I have the same ? on another iMac after i updated to macOS Sierra. So much a coincidence don't you think. I have 2 more iMacs to upgrade and I want to fix this first before I upgrade another one.

try deleting com.apple.dock.plist from the Preferences folder in your User Library. then run this in terminal:

Okay. I just found out that the library under users was hidden.

I just followed what you just said. I also manually deleted the file,.It created another com.apple.dock.plist but the question marks are still there. Also, Im seeing another version of com.apple.dock.plist with extension .lockfile. Im not sure if I should delete this as well, or if this is the reason why it's not updating my dock. see photo. Thanks.

Should I delete the com.apple.dock.plist.lockfile as well?
