I just installed a brand new 16x Lacie lightscribe DVD burner in my dual 500 powermac. I installed the drivers and It will read DVDs and CD's fine, I tried to burn a dvd and the drive gave me this error code...

The disc cannot be used because the disc drive is
not supported. (error code 0x80020025)

What could the problem be? I installed the drivers, and made sure everything was Ok...

thanks in advance.

I installed the drivers with the old drive and then swapped out for the new one, I rebooted and that was it, I'll try patch burn, I was trying to burn directly from the finder... so that could be the problem too, I am gonna try to install my copy of toast titanium and see how that goes.

I think unless your old drive was the exact same model, you'll need something like Patchburn. I think OS X is very fussy about what drives work without this sort of procedure. But once you do it, you should be able to burn from Finder, iTunes, or other apps that use coreservices.

patchburn says the drive is allready supported. I checked the support website last night and there is nothing about porblems with using this drive with OS X 10.3.9...

Any more suggestions would be muchly appreciated.

Thanks again.

Open System Profiler (Apple Menu -> About this Mac -> More info) and see what it says under disc burning and/or under the disk interface item about your drive...somewhere it should list which formats it supports reading from and writing to. What is listed there?

I'm at my iBook and not my iMac, but I think it should look loosely like this, with different specifics:

MATSHITA CD-RW CW-8123:

Firmware Revision: CA0T
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw
Media: No
