I noticed a quirk in macOS Safari since Mojave but it may have been around longer.
Overview: When Safari first starts, followed by navigating to a page (google.com is used here), the find function (cmd-F) does not show the find bar at the top of the window.
More Details: If, after cmd-F fails, you open a new tab then go back to the original tab and type cmd-F, the find bar appears normally.
History: I posted this before and nobody willing to respond was able to reproduce it. While finding a work around, I refined the requirements to reproduce the problem and am asking for others to take a few minutes and try to reproduce it.
Setup: Change the following macOS Safari settings (General).
"Safari opens with" = "A new private window".
"New windows open with" = "Favorites".
After changing settings, quit Safari, restart it, navigate to google.com and type cmd-F. Does the find bar appear? Let me know below.
I can reproduce the issue 100% of the time with these settings. I can fix the issue 100% of the time by setting "Safari opens with" = "a new window" OR setting "New windows open with" = "Empty Page". My guess is the combination of showing the Favorites page AND the start up notice about browsing in private mode combine to confuse Safari about the window geometry resulting in the find bar appearing under (hidden by) other window elements.
