Hello,

I have been researching numerous ways to reset the autocorrect when I type something.

This is how I have added words:

"Type the word in any app (e.g., Messages) followed by a spacebar and let it be "corrected." Then type a backspace and other options including your original "wrong" spelling will appear above the autocorrected word. Tap the one that matches your original typing. That will change it back to the way you entered it and also adds it to the dictionary."

So I tried this:

"Click the desktop to bring focus to Finder, then hit shift-command-g and paste ~/Library/Spelling/ in the box, then enter. In that folder you will see a file called LocalDictionary. Open that file with Text Edit and remove whatever words you want then save the file. Logout and back in to reset the Dictionary after this."

and I could not find a local dictionary file but I know I added words to my personal dictionary.

Anyone have any ideas? I would appreciate any help!

try ~/Library/Spelling/dynamic-text.dat

Okay, I deleted the values in that file. But for example, I type "heyyy", it doesn't auto correct. How do I know if it actually cleared?

I appreciate any help!

It's probably cached in memory. Try
Code:
killall AppleSpell
in Terminal and then relaunch the application where you want to type the text...

Thanks for the reply! It didn't work. Is there any other way to check if my keyboard dictionary is reset?

Thanks again

Well, it works for me alright. Delete that file (actually everything in ~/Library/Spell/ may be deleted), kill the AppleSpell process and it's fine. But if you make AppleSpell add any more words to that file before killing it, it will recreate the file including the old data.

Thanks for the help. I think I got it to work.

One last question, if a word starts to autocorrect and I keep typing, does it add it to the dictionary?

I really appreciate the help
