I'm a complete beginner when it comes to Final Cut Pro.

I'm trying to resize a video and my issue is when I export it I get black boxes around the video.

The video information is this:

I import the video into Final Cut Pro using these settings:

I want to crop the video, whilst keeping the aspect ratio. For this, I am using the transform tool. I manage to resize the video, but when I export it I see black box around the video.

How can I transform the size and export the video without it having the black box around it? I want the transformed video to be the new size of the video, if that makes sense, so there are no black boxes visible.

I am using Final Cut Pro 11.0.

The unedited video looks like this in Quick Time Player -

when I crop the video it looks like this:

Looks like something's wrong with your transform. Have a close look to make sure it isn't resizing the frame or doing something weird.

I don't see any reason it would do that from the video import/export data.

I have no clue. But this free app is easier to use for resizing:

I also use this one:

Thanks - it seems to work ok in Handbrake with these settings. If this is the wrong way I'm doing it, then please let me know.

There probably is some setting that I'm missing or something I'm doing wrong, but I can't work it out. I would love to be able to solve it, as I'm sure it can be done in Final Cut Pro.

If you have cropped the video, you have made the visible video frame smaller. If you want that smaller frame to fill the screen without black bars, you must expand (scale up) the video to once again fill the frame.

You need to set the dimensions back to 1280 x 720 when exporting the video from FCP.

That will not fix this problem.

The cropped video must still be scaled up in Final Cut so it fills the frame. Otherwise, the exported 1280 x 720 video will still have the black bars around the image.
