I stupidly erased everything on my iphone 8, running IOS 12.soemthing, some 100 GB of movies, music, and photos, etc. I don't have any itunes backups from the last year to restore from, but I do see the option to restore from an icloud backup from either 1 day ago and from 2 days ago. Either of these would be fantastic. But when I started the process, it took a lonnggg time and I aborted after an hour or so when it seemed to be making no progress.

Then I googled the issue, and folks on the internet are saying it can take several hours to several DAYS to restore an iphone from an icloud backup, particularly if you have tons of stuff backed up like I do, if it even works at all? Can that be true?? That would mean not really being able to use my phone for way too long while I waited for this endless backup restore to finish, right?

There is valuable business and personal information and videos from the last year that seems to have been backed up to icloud in the last couple of days. If that's true and its in the cloud safe and sound, what are my realistic options for getting that information back onto my iphone and continuing to function in the 21st century in the meantime?

What option do you have? You either wait for the backup or you don’t. If the stuff on the backup is important then you’ve got to try the restore and wait it out. And yep iCloud can be gobsmackingly slow.
