I tried once but got a 'device not eligible for the requested build'. Should i get 6.1.2? I don't care about unlocking or jb' ing in the future.

Yes you can always restore a jailbroken device to a stock firmware. Just make sure you're restoring to a firmware which Apple is currently signing.
