I have tried some of the most common apps, NRC, Map My Run, Runkeeper, etc. Please tell me I’m missing something obvious as I can’t find a simple lap button on any of these apps? I do a lot of interval running, fast and slow and walk and run and I would like to track, and preferably view while running, the average lap pace.

Any ideas? Thanks so much!

Lol. Are you serious? Apple watch apps don't have basic functionality yet? :D

I'd like to know this too. Ideally I would use my Apple Watch for my running workouts but I don't see options for individual laps/intervals or average pace (which for me is much more useful than current pace, which can vary greatly). I'm using my Garmin for my running workouts and then my Apple Watch during the rest of my day, because the Garmin is so much better as a running and fitness watch. It doesn't have to be this way though, given all of the resources that Apple has.

Sometimes I wish Apple would just buy Garmin and be done with it.

[doublepost=1513371492][/doublepost]The closest solution I have found is to use the Nike+ app on the watch, select speed workout and press the crown and side button at the same time for each interval. The only thing missing is average pace as it will show current pace. If you want to do active recovery, press the side and crown twice for each interval.

This method works far better if you change the watch orientation so that your thumb on your opposite hand can press both buttons at the same time e.g. I have the watch on my left wrist with the digital crown on the left side and press both buttons with my right thumb.

Workouts++ has average pace and lap functionality (double tap instead of a button). It’s probably the most configurable workout app I’ve seen.

As indicated both Workouts++ and the built in workout app have lap functionality AND avg pace functionality, but I don't know if either of them displays avg pace for that particular lap (which is what it seems like you want).

The iPhone app for NRC does this, but I don't know if that functionality translates perfectly on Apple Watch.

The stock workout app allows you to double tap to mark a "segment"

Not sure if it does average lap times

I think it works with stock workout app.
You can display both avg and instant pace.
You can double tap the screen to start/stop a lap and it displays the data of the finished segment.

[doublepost=1537742435][/doublepost]Runneter has a lap button plus many other runner necessities. It is on the App Store. I live in a rural area so the gps tracking has been touch and go for me but the app is one of the best.

Why do so many apps for the Apple Watch look like they were designed by a 5 year old. It's a nice bit of kit, but third party apps are pretty dreadful in general compared to the polish we're used to iOS.

Hopefully greater AW uptake and the newer screen sizes will mean better apps in the next 12 months.
