I am trying to setup a network drive connected to my router so I can share files on my Home Network (smart TV’s and iPads / iPhones)

Hardware is:

Seagate 500 GB USB 2.0
Formatted to MAC OS Extended
Set permissions to Admin Read & Write

Router: Netgear AC 1750 Model R63002v2_UM
Configuration is set USB Share ON

2017 MBP Catalina 10.15.4

I can see the USB drive when I go to "Finder" - Go - Connect to server - and login.
When I login to the the server as Admin, I can see and read any files that were copied to it when I had the drive connected to the MBP.
When connect to the router, I can’t write ,copy, or save files to it. I get the message “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items”.
When I check the information for the server, is shows Admin as Read & Write (permissions on the Seagate were set to Admin Read & Write)

I have setup a “Guest” user with Read & Write permissions in System Preferences and have Sharing - File Sharing and Media Sharing checked.
I have tried logging in to the server as “Guest” and still get the “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items.)
I know I’m missing something simple but can’t find it.

Does your router see the hard disk in it? As a networked hard drive the router doesn’t need formatting because I don’t think the router can see a HFS+ format drive!

Yes, the USB port on my router. When I go to Finder - Go - Connect to server - and login. (SMD://192.169.1.1/home) (Home is the name of the drive) and login as "Admin", which is the same as m login for the MBP. I can then see the drive and read any files that are on the drive but am unable to write to it. When I try I get the message “The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items”.

an attempt to "mount" your Home drive onto your desk top iMac or MBP

try a method:
type in command K
see a screen "Connect to Server"
type in SMB://192.169.1.1/home
assert Select
next screen enter name password for server... as Registered User
do you see Registered User??

research how you can gain full read / write permissions for the Netgear AC 1750 based USB drive
maybe create a new router user to fully access the attached usb drive
update the admin account to full read write on the hard drive
do this via the router embedded web page at 192.169.1.1

company web site, reddit, maybe they have a customer support voice thingy...

Mount the drive onto your deskto then, with your left hand, press the command button+I! Then will give a permission pop-up that you can checkmark to write to it also! To easy!

Thanks Satcomer: When the permission pop-up comes it shows that I (Administer) and Staff and everyone has R/W privilege. I even tried unlocking and clicking on the R/W, then locking again. I then quit the pop-up, Eject the disk, quick finder. Open Finder go to Serve, login in,, SAME Problem.
Note: that if I connect the USB drive to my MBP I can access the drive and R/W files to it. Permission are still at R/W for Admin, Staff and everyone.
Even tried a 125 GB USB thumb drive with the same results. The file types that i am trying are standard Txt., MP3's, Mov's.

Then disconnect the drive and do a Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac and ten mount you drives again and try again!

From the manual for the 1650: "The router supports both read and write for FAT16, FAT32, NTFS, and Linux file systems (EXT2 and EXT3)."

Your router has read-only capability for HFS+. Format as FAT32 or NTFS, then try again.

Ezylstra I think you got it. I checked the Format of the drive from Disk Utility and its reads as (USB External Physical Disk • Apple Partition Map) and the drive named "File" as (USB External Physical Volume • Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
I'll reformat to another one.

Thanks everyone for the help.
