The building where I work at only has Wireless Internet access. Since my MacPro does not have airport, the way I used to connect to the network from my office was with an Access Point (tp-link tl-wa701) configured in Client Mode.
Recently more people started working at my office, so I also have 2 Imacs (with Airport). There is barely any signal in my office, since it's located in a new wing of the building. The Imacs and Iphones do not detect the network long enough to connect. Therefore I decided to use the AP, wich has a greater reception range and can establish a good connection, to create an office network within the Wireless Network.
This is how I've set up:
My AP (in client mode) connects to the building's Wireless Router and then relays the signal via ethernet to a Wireless Router, wich retransmits the signal via wlan, and lan to the computers.
The problem I'm having is that this appears to be a very unstable setup, specially when more than one device connects to the office network.
The AP also has repeater mode and bridge mode, but I have not been able to set those modes successfully.
It's important to note that I do not have access to the building's Wireless Router, and will never be able to gain access, for security reasons. The only data I was able to get out of the IT department was the IP and MAC Address of the building's Wireless Router. I was not able to make out the make and model of this router.
Another detail: When a device connects to the building's network, it uses DHCP for it's IP. The building's network is secured and uses a wep key, which I have configured into the client AP so that it connects.
Even though I'm currently connected, I'm fairly sure there is a better way to set up what I'm trying to achieve. Any help would be appreciated.
