I am trying to setup one of my main accounts as POP3 instead on IMAP in Mac mail. I have been using Outlook, which worked fine for this, but seems a bit laggy compared to the Apple email app. When I go to create the account it gives me a list such as iCloud, Exchange, Google, AOL, etc. Since I am using my ISP account, I select "Other Account". I put in my user name and password and it creates the account as IMAP. It doesn't give me any option for POP and when I go into the account information the servers are greyed out so that I can't change them.

I use this account for business, although it is just a standard ISP Cox account, and I would prefer that this particular account be POP so that these emails stay on my Mac so that I can go back to them years from now, but won't clutter up my iPhone and iPad and other devices with years worth of emails. How do I setup a POP account on Mac Mail in Yosemite?

After you have put in your user name and password, press the Option key down : the "Create" button will turn into "Continue", and you will have the choice between IMAP and POP.
