Im trying to maximize the space on my 16gb Iphone. I have bought a couple of tv shows and a movie off of itunes, but they have bitrates unnecessarily high given that ill be watching them on an iphone (who needs to watch Southpark at a bitrate of 1500?) Im trying to figure out how I can shrink them.

I've been really happy with handbrake as far as DVD's go, as I've been able to put Snatch and Fast Times at Ridgemont High on my iphone with each taking up a little over 600 megabytes a piece. I'd like to be able to do the same thing with my video downloads from Itunes, but handbrake won't let me pull them up (itunes movie copyright protection?).

Basically what I'm trying to figure out is how to make my itunes movies and tv shows smaller. Im a newbie so any help would be greatly appreciated.

About the only thing I can think of is Right Click and choose the convert for iPhone feature or something? I don't have any purchased shows to try that out with

You can't covert any itunes TV shows/movies to any other format. They must stay as the original format which is a protected mpeg4. second of all, handbrake only converts dvds, not video files.. You need isquint for that

thanks for the info. no offense but it doesn't really help me... i don't want to convert them to another format.

i just want to know how to shrink the videos that i downloaded from itunes. if that involves stripping them of the copyright protection, id like to know how to do that, and also the subsequent steps necessary to shrink the movie.

if your on a mac...

If your on a mac its easy as a program called handbreak.

2 rules to fallow on when converting to fit on on an iPhone

1. File can be no larger then 2 GB (i set my max at 1900mb to be safe)
2. No file Bitrate can exceed 2400 kbps.

I have converted over 1000 movies and tv shows and they ALL WORK on both my iPhone and my :apple:TV

on the PC the same rules apply but the program used will differ some..

Another Note.... using and Mp4 ext. is hit or miss. always use *.M4V never had a single problem

the movies look great too!

thanks but that also doesn't help me at all. i want to shrink a movie that i bought on itunes (and is therefore saved on my hd), not a DVD.
