So I recently found a little ding/scratch right above my trackpad (not on the trackpad, but the space between the trackpad and the keyboard) on my MBP 15in 2016 model. I do have the limited Apple Care warranty thing. The scratch itself is really small (0.5-1mm) but I find it extremely annoying and it is sharp. I honestly have no idea where it came from but I do want to have it repaired (or probably have the bottom casing replaced). However, my question is: is it free or am I going to have to pay?

FYI: I plan on using this device for a good 6-8 more years so the "ding" will always be there if I don't get it replaced and as a confessed perfectionist... I find it a little tooooo annoying...

So basically: is a (extremely minor) cosmetic repair free with Apple Care and should I do it (considering it will be my permanent device for a good while).

Any personal experience with this kind of thing would be extremely appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance for everything!

In my experience, it depends on who you see at the Apple store. Our family owns several Apple devices A few times they've looked at us and said, essentially, no. But on a return trip the answer is yes.

Hey thanks for responding! When you say return trip, do you mean you went a second time and they said yes?

And also, was the repair covered by warranty?

The trackpad and the area around are parts of the MacBook that are (naturally) going to be "contacted" by the user's hands and most subject to wear.

If you "recently found" the scratch, I'm going to guess that it wasn't there when you bought it. Otherwise, you would have noticed it right away.

From Apple's viewpoint, this is probably "user inflicted wear and tear".
The replacement part isn't cheap.
In my opinion, they're unlikely to cover it as a "warranty" repair.

One-half of a millimeter?
Just get used to it.

Otherwise, it's probably gonna "cost you".
