I've been given a Sony DCR-HC19E camcorder for Xmas. On the box and in the shop they said it was compatible with a mac. I spent ages followign teh isntructions with the USB on Boxing Day with no success.

Eventually called Sony helpline and after 20 mins on call got through to someone who told me to buy an iLink (firewire) cable. Bought the cable and still having no luck- any ideas?

Thanks!

Oh my god I'm so stupid. I was expecting to see it on the desktop as a new drive, and it didn't show up, so thought there was something wrong. Actually if you open iMovie it recognises the camera anyway. Doh!

I don't know about the HC-19E, but with other models (I have the TVR22) you use the USB to access the memory stick (if it has one) or use it as a webcam. But you can use the Firewire connection as a webcam with iChat.

Just a side question: Can ANY firewire camera be used with iChat?

I have only used Sony. 4 different models.

I would think that any other brands should work.

What kind do you have?
