is it possible to sync some video file to apple tv and sync the rest? If so, how is it done? When ever I choose a few films or tv episodes to keep on the apple tv, I can't seem to access the rest of the videos on my mac for streaming.

Is this with AppleTV 2.0? If so, as long as the computer linked to the AppleTV is on and iTunes is running (check if AppleTV shows up in iTunes), you should have access to all iTunes content, synced or not. It will all be shown mixed together, and you won't notice any difference until you power off/sleep the computer or quit iTunes.

Thanks, I think I've tried that already, but started syncing this morning and will see if has worked after work.
I think the last time I tried it I checked a couple of large videos to sync but they ended up being the only movies I could access.

On the iTunes Summary page for your Apple TV, make sure that you have not checked the box labeled 'Show only the synced items on my Apple TV'.
