Hi,

I have searched for this, but nothing really helps. I have some VCD's and SVCD's and want to convert them to a different format like .mov or .avi, and don't know how to do it. Could anyone give me tips how to convert VCD's or SVCD's to different formats or how to burn em to DVD.

Thanks in advance

To change file type: you can drag (using command+option, or import) the vcd movie files (moviename.dat) into quicktime and then export them into various formats. To burn them, using Toast, click on the video tab, drag the files to the the area it indicates, select the side pullout menu and select DVD video from there. Good luck with it

I think since they are already svcd's or vcd's then that is their final format....if you still have the files on your comp that you used to burn them to svcd's or vcd's, get those and use a prob such as toast or something similar to that...

well i have a svcd which consists of a .r01 to .r55 and a .bin and a .cue.
I have burnt the files using the .cue to SVCD in toast, but I really want is to convert the main movie file to .mov or something similar.

You have two options. Since you already burned it, put in the CD and copy the mpg file to your computer. As long as you have the MPEG2 plugin for Quicktime you can open the file in Quicktime and then export it to what ever format you like!

I haven't done this with a SVCD, just VCDs, but if the .r01 are chapter files you can drag and drop them into QT and it (QT7) will paste them together, and then you could export the whole movie as a .mov file. So open the first chapter file in quicktime (have a new window open go file open, select the file, then make sure the slider is moved all the way to the right, end of the chapter) then just drag and drop the next ones and they automatically get added on (you might have to hold down option+command to force QT to open them though). Then export the compilation to whatever format you wanted
