The Port!
Well I don't want this to be yet another MB vs MBP discussion.
It's more mature than that. See the thing was I originally really wanted a SR MBP. But this damned forum put me off it (yellow screens etc) and i really don't want to have to return it 3 times to get a good one. BUT, if you could persuade me otherwise that would help. It would be the low end 15 inch.

Another option is the blacbook + applecare. Is applecare worth it? does the black case clean easily? i really like the size of it, but the GMA 950 and 2 Gb Dual channel mode RAM limit wont be so good in say 2 years time.

One last option would be a refurb 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro, but the older graphics card compared to the 8600m GT doesn't excite me!

So here are the three options:
15 Inch 2.2 Ghz SR MacBook Pro - £1299
13.3 Inch 2.16 Ghz MacBook (Black) + Applecare - £1,148
15 Inch 2.16 Ghz MacBook Pro (Refurb) - £1,079

What should I go for?

and just for laughs and an arguement, Matte or Glossy? XD

thanks in advance and sorry for the long post,
Benedictus-x

EDIT: title should be swinging!

Well my vote goes for the 2.2 SR Matte. I have one, and personally, the matte screen has no glare and I don't notice a loss of color accuracy (if anything, it's more accurate). Forget the 2.16 mbp, it's outdated technology that you shouldn't even think about. If price is a concern, wait a few more weeks and buy a refurb 2.2 SR.
I'm not sure if Applecare is needed if you're in the UK. I read on another thread that there are consumer protection laws that do a lot of the work that Applecare does in the UK. Check it out before you decide. Either way, don't buy Applecare right away. Wait a little while and buy it after a few months to a year.

Edit: My mbp has no dead pixels or yellow tint. There was a thread on this, and many, many people responded with positive replies. Don't let the relatively small percentage of bad mbps make you think that they're all bad.

I just ordered my MBP last Sunday and I got it at the beginning of this week and I am completely satisfied. No problems at all. Then again I was so excited about getting my first computer(let alone a mac) that I'm not nearly as picky as many others are looking for the tinniest problems. I got the low end MBP with 160 HD and a matte screen. You should try to go to an Apple store if possible to compare the screens for your own personal preference. The matte shows true color values (recommended for any type of artist) whereas glossy saturates the colors so they are darker, whiter and more vibrant, however, they may give you a false sense of what a color image will look like when it prints out. Also the glossy reflects light easier, it just depends on whether or not that is a big deal for you(some people don't even notice it).

ah right. problem is I live in ireland and theres no apple stores! the nearest certified reseller is PCworld, and any of you UK guys will know how crap they are! I'm going to hawaii this summer so ill call in to the store in honolulu and decide between glossy/matte if its the MBP i go for.

so i shouldn't be too worried about yellow screens on SR MBP?

thanks guys

I wouldn't worry about it too much. While I'm sure some did get really bad screens, I think most of us got pretty good screens and mbps as a whole. I don't think it's a "Pinto" case or anything.

I hope you are using protection.
Do all apple laptops not come with contraception?
actually no..don't even go there. reminds me of an episode of harry enfield were bill gates and steve jobs talk to each other, and steve presents the iHump. eugh
