HELP! Temperature problem 4.1 to 5.1 firmware upgrade

I successfuly upgrade 2009 4.1 to 5.1 firmware.

I want to make stress test, after 10 minutes cpu diode 85 degree celcius under full load but fans is not speed up.

Under full load CPU A and B core temperature going to down. Someting go wrong.


I used terminal for cpu stress test like this link:

Interesting thing is Total CPU A (or b) core and CPU A (or B) diode temperature is like a fixed, 89-90-91 degree celcius.

For example CPU A core 20degree, CPU A diode 70degree. TOTal 90 degree. Total is never change, 89, 90 or 91 degree.
Cpu A diode temp is 85degree celcius but fans turn very slow.

How can I fixed this issue?

This App hast a incorrect Caption

CPU A/B must be the Relative to ProcHot Info. If this is 0 the CPU will begin to thottle. It shows how far away the max. CPU temperature is (90-92°C is the max. "Core Pack" temperature).

All is OK under full load, here is my cMP 5,1

85 is normal. It will only speed up a bit to keep the temperature at around 85, that's the native setting.

The CPU Core X obviously is a wrong lable. That's the temperature to processor hot state, which means the higher the better. And until it hit zero, the processor is still staying within the normal thermal envelope.

Apple decide to keep the machine as quiet as possible as long as within the thermal limit. That's why you see this result. Everything is normal.

If you want to cool it down. You can manually set a higher fan speed, or use some software to do that automatically.

That's because your CPU did not go over 85, so the fan no need to spin up.

In this case mac pro open fans at 90degree celcius. Is diode temperature same thing as say intel?

The great news is you already have full fan control with TG Pro. You can have the fans increase in speed based on the CPU temperatures. For example, here's a setup for the fan Auto Boost feature that would probably help.

T-case max is not T-diode max, and there is no practical way to measure the T-case temperature in our Mac Pro. The common believe is that the T-diode is around 10C hotter than T-case when at the max temperature.

So, theoretically, your CPU is still 5C away from the processor hot state, which is exactly what the software told you.

You'll be able to do this in TG Pro 2.8 which I'm working on now and will be a free update. I expect to have it ready in the next 5-10 days. Right now, the choices are Average CPU, Any Sensor and Always.

Once the new version is available, you'll be able to choose from any of the sensors, including the CPU Diode Temperature you mention.
