Hi all,
It suddenly occurred to me that maybe I can help my dad isolated in a senior home if I could log into his iMac remotely to bring up live streamed family events, Masses, FaceTime, etc.
He’s 95 and unable to operate his iMac himself because of tremors and vision, but he still has it in his room. He can do a little bit with voice commands but mostly get’s himself stuck.

I found an apple article on how to set it up (which will be my first hurdle, finding someone to make the setting changes). If I can get that working, will that let me bring up Safari for him and navigate to websites with him watching or is the display only viewable to me?

Any insight on whether this is doable or not, and what I need to make it happen is help. I’m above average technical and can do terminal commands, etc.

It can be done. You need to set up Screen Sharing (System Preferences/Sharing). After that you need to direct port 5900 on the router to his computer. It's best to choose a static IP for his computer. If you don't have access to the router, you can look at software like Team Viewer.

Cheers!

Yes…Teamviewer gets around all the porting and local network configuration issues, usually.

You'd need to set it up so that it starts at login…in case of restarts or shutdowns on your Dad's end. You can use the "Easy Access" feature they have or just give your Dad's Teamviewer app a permanent password.

There's also an iOS app that can connect to computers.

Thanks for the input on Teamviewer. Unfortunately, it only gives me 5 minutes at a time. I can't tell is that's by design or the personal use wasn't set up correctly (I did the ticket to ask for free personal).

Is there another tool anyone can recommend?

I used TeamViewer until I found out that Jump Desktop works amazing on both PC/Mac/Mobile. Worth it.
