Hi,
Just purchased a new iMac 21.5 with El Capitan. Old mac was Yosemite 10.10.5.
I did a full backup from my old system to my time capsule. I then used the startup setup on my new iMac to setup from the time capsule.
It took a couple of days to complete and when it did it had lots of messages. Nothing significant i could see. But on first startup. lots of applications hadn't come across. Microsoft office, Photoshop and some others. All docs seemed ok, email and safari settings and password were ok.
Problem is I'm not quite sure what state the machine is in now. I bought the new mac because the old one was running so slow. Im now going to have to try to reinstall lots of apps and I'm wondering if I've imported a load of crap onto my new system with programs in an unknown state.
1. So I'm wondering if i would just be better to do a reset on the new iMac to make sure everything is clean again and install apps manually. Is this possible and advisable?
2. If not is there a way of deleting apps from the new iMac so that i can reinstall them again manually? Ive always had problems finding all the various bits of programs when trying to uninstall.
3. On the new iMac i can open time machine ok and navigate to programs and docs but i can't restore them. Is this a difference between operating systems on old and new?
Thanks,
Mike
