Hi everyone,

Let me start by saying I'm mostly a Android guy, and I'm very ignorant to all apple products.. That said, my girl's boss offered her an iPhone 4 (locked to vodafone Portugal). We both use a different carrier so right now what she's left with is pretty much a useless iPod..

The ways of jailbreak and unlocking iPhones are very confusing to me, so I hope you guys can help me out..

It's an iPhone 4, iOS 6.1.3 and baseband 04.12.5.

Is there any solution available to unlock this phone?

Thanks in advance, L2D.

Shouldn't you be asking or finding this out before you buy a phone that's locked to a carrier that you cannot use?
There's no software hack to unlock it. You will have to ask the carrier that is locked to unlock it or
See if you can use a gevey sim interposer for a hardware unlock.

I'm sorry, was that rhetorical question for me or is it just something you think it applies to everyone?

Does that part of the first post answers it? ;)

Can you help me find where to get gevey sim card reliable information? Apparently there are many misleading sites available..

Thanks.

Then your girl should have figured out if she can use the phone with her carrier or not. Unless she didn't buy it yet.
Here's geveys official site.
http://www.gevey.com
You should be able to find details there. I never used one personally but I know if you update the firmware version good chances are your unlock will be gone. It's not like an official imei unlock.

lol. Are you that ungrateful with your gifts? Didn't your mother taught you to be grateful and fake a smile at your gram's ugly pijamas and socks? :D
The phone is not new, it's her old phone. Let's just assume there is no choice regarding this, and be done here, ok? It's a vodafone iPhone that fell in our lap and that's it. No ifs, buts our maybes.

Gevey website has no reference to my baseband. And IMEI unlock it's far too expensive. Is there a way for me to downgrade the device into an earlier supported BB?

Thanks.

he told you pretty much all your possible options, a hardware unlock or IMEI unlock

see if there's someone you can contact at gevey's site what basebands are supported. either that, or you can gamble and purchase a gevey, or one of those cheap chinese one (i think they're called r-sims are something; not sure if there are different models for different devices/versions/etc)

i'm sure there's plenty other variants too but those two are the only ones i've seen talked about before (not saying others weren't talked about but these two are the ones i've personally seen)

there's no way to downgrade a baseband, unfortunately. the except is for 3GS before mid 2009 (and maybe for the 3G as well, but not sure)

Thank you for your answers..

If you could send me in those "other variants" right direction I'd really appreciate, I don't mind researching, and basically, that's my only option left!:D

I've researched around for IMEI unlock prices, and I could buy an used unlocked iPhone for those prices.

There is no Gevey or R-SIM or any other device that will unlock an iPhone 4 with that baseband version. Your only option is to try to get the carrier to unlock it. While grey market unlocks are very expensive your gf's boss might be able to call the carrier and get them to unlock the phone for much cheaper.
Worth a try...

Thanks for the tip braxton. Completely forgot about that! Will tell her to ask her boss to call the carrier, if the phone belongs to a signature and she got a new phone on that same number, there's a big chance she can unlock it even for free! :D

Thanks.
