My fable game is having problems every time i play after a few minutes the game will "unexpectedly quit" so after doing some research i noticed a lot of people had this problem. I have not downloaded the update 1.0.1 yet, so i went to do that from feral's site, and whenever i launch the download installer, (multi-language installer?) it says "please insert original fable : TLC disk, it must be present to update." Well i have done that and it won't work, i keep getting the same message! i have restarted, redownloaded the installer, taken out the disk and put it back in everything! Please help, i just got this game and i really want to play it!!

Have you contacted Feral support? They should be able to assist you with one of their own titles.

Contact support, the updater script needs the retail DVD in the drive to reinstall the game and will only work if you have an original disk in the DVD drive, a network mount or a disk image will fail to update.

I suspect you have a mount point issue but our support team can help you out.

yes i contacted support, they told me to unistall the original application by dragging the application to the trash, and then using the update installer to install the game. i tried that, but the installer still won't read or recognize my disk. It should be a legitimate copy i bought it off amazon from PocketAcesDvD. he had a great rating and many sales, almost in the thousands, so i don't think its a fake or something of that nature, the game originally installed and played fine, but after about a hour of gameplay, it started quitting. the computer reads it as fable the lost chapters dvd, so i don't know what to do. do you want a report i get that it wants me to send to apple whenever it quits?

Contacting Apple won't do much in this case those crash logs don't usually make it to Feral. I would recommend you contact support again and tell them what happens, we cannot offer support if you don't tell us what is going wrong. The usual advice they gave works for most cases in your case it did not but if you don't tell them they cannot follow up.

I suspect you have an issue with your Volumes folder causing the DVD to be mounted in a different path to normal which in turn causes the updated to not find it. However if you contact support one of my colleagues can give you some pointers and I can also have a look if it gets tricky. :)

I think the Fable updater script has been about for about 4 years now without problems so I am pretty sure the issue will be related to the mount point location and the updater not being able to access the game data stored on the DVD.

Good Luck,

Edwin

Yea they followed up and said that they think it might be a damaged disk, so they wanted me to check my DVD drive, and the disk to make sure it's not one of those things, and I should send them proof of purchase so I can get a replacement disk. But what you are saying sounds much more likly to be that problem, is there any way we can continue this conversation over email or anything like that? It seems that would result in a quicker solution because it seems you are very knowledgeable in regards to these kinds of problems, and feral support is helping me but it seems like you might be able to help me alittle quicker, because again what you are saying seems like the problem I'm having. How would I go about fixing this mount point location issue?

I get drafted in to help with the more complicated problems with support from time to time. Drop me a PM with your email address you emailed support with and I will log into support and have a look at the details.

btw 99% of these issues are usually caused by a scratched disk so it tends to be the first suggestion by our support team when this issue crops up. I just happen to have written the updater for Fable so am operating on a hunch based on my knowledge of the update scripts and a bug I first saw 5 years ago with volume mounting. ;)

Will look out for your PM.
